Elevator Pitch Project
How do you describe Rotary when someone asks?
Do you find yourself getting into lengthy descriptions about international, district, and local projects, then talking about, lunches, fundraisers, etc.. and suddenly realize that your listener’s eyes have glazed over?
The Club asked members to condense their descriptions of our club. This “Elevator Pitch” is a simple, concise, yet powerful descriptor of our club; one that raises interest and appreciation for Rotary Club of Ashland.
If you want to post a pitch of your own, please log onto the members section and follow the instructions!
The Rotary Club of Ashland is a dynamic, diverse group of people committed to serving others through local and international projects. We meet once a week for lunch, have lots of opportunities for fellowship and fun and achieve amazing goals working together as one. Believe it or not, during the worst recession in decades, our club raised enough money so that more than 150 families in our sister city, Guanajuato, Mexico, now have their first substantial house. That's just one of 100 reasons why I'm a Rotarian. Deedie Runkel
"What is Rotary? Rotary builds houses, provides clean water systems, supports world peace, creates better understanding of different cultures, builds leaders and works to make the world a better place. Rotary is about people that choose to implement their ideas to create large and impacting differences in the world both locally and globally. Rotary is utilizing 1.2 million people with the same goal, “Service above self” There is always room for more… David Lively
Our club is part of Rotary International, a world-wide organization of over 1 million business professionals. Working together, we are committed to improving the quality of life in our community and throughout the world. Our motto is "service above self." Through fund-raisers and donations, our club has been the major contributor to the Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink and to the construction of 170 homes in our sister city of Guanajuato, Mexico. We also put on the annual Easter Egg Hunt in Lithia Park, the Holiday Dinner for Seniors and our members plant and harvest fresh vegetables for the Ashland Emergency Food Bank. Through Rotary International, we have partnered with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to eliminate polio. Joan Williamson
To the world, Rotary is a million plus, business and professional men and women in 33,000 clubs, in over 200 countries united in building a better, more peaceful world. To the Community Rotary is scores of people working together to support projects and charitable causes they believe in, both locally and internationally. To a Rotarian, it’s a way of enriching one’s life by “giving back” to their community and world. Duane Smith
"Rotary is a service organization with 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs all over the world. Membership includes educators, doctors, lawyers, politicians, and business people. Our motto is “service above self” Rotary has supported the effort to wipe out Polio by dispersing free vaccine. There are only Pakistan, Afghanistan and India that still have Polio cases. We hope to eliminate that soon. We are strong supporters of education and offer several scholarships. We come to aid whenever disaster strikes. We build houses where there are none. We dig wells where there are none. We construct sanitation devices for safely disposing of sewage. We build stoves so families can cook outside or inside with adequate smoke dispersion. It is our intent to make this a better world for all of us.

I'm part of an amazing organization that's changing the world. It's the Rotary Club of Ashland. I never knew much about Rotary until I joined last year. Its mission is to improve the world through humanitarian work, and it's largely responsible for the irradication of polio. Each club also develops its own projects. Our club gives thousands of dollars of scholarships to Ashland High seniors and we've built over 100 houses for needy families in Mexico. I could go on and on about the incredible work Rotary does, but the best way to find out is to be my guest for lunch some Thursday. Interested?

Ashland Rotary is a lunch club for business people with a community service addiction. We are practical, bottom-line business people who believe that our businesses, our lives, and our community flourish when we contribute time and money to help others. We make lives better through projects ranging from an annual Easter Egg hunt for local kids, to building houses with in sister city Guanajuato, and all sorts of things in between. Its a lot of fun - you should come join us! Jeanne Stallman
