Compost Drop off at Ashland's Tuesday Grower's market
Supporting the environment is Rotary's seventh and newest area of focus, which are categories of service activities supported by global grants. (It joins peace building and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development.) Ashland Rotary's Committee kicked off this new environmentally focused committee last year by creating and funding, with the Ashland Food Co-op, the free compost bin drop off at the Tuesday farmer's market. Rotary volunteers help staff the bins each week. Other projects now under development may include working with other area environmental organizations on land conservation work projects, and visits to protected lands. Join us and bring your ideas about how to shape this exciting new committee.
A message from Flavia Franco:
The Ashland Growers Market food scrap drop site has been sponsored by the Ashland Rotary Club, but over the winter, we have to self sponsor. It worked out really well last year, so I hope we can do the same this winter.
If you haven't signed up already, the easiest way to do that is to make a check payable to Rogue Produce for $30 and leave it with me.
I am going to be hosting a community conversation about Community Compost on Monday November 13 at 6pm at the Ashland Library in the Gresham Room. I would love to see some familiar faces there and I think having people at the gathering who are already participating in Community Compost can help if there are questions about how it feels and what it's like to get into the habit of diverting food scraps out of the trash.
Let me know if you have questions!
